Kid Stuff

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Our classroom uses a S.T.A.R. (Students Taking Awesome Responsibility) Binders to help us learn how to organize our materials and stay organized throughout the year!!  I hope that you will find it very helpful in managing lunch menus, calendars, newsletters, etc.

After morning work, the class will go through their notebooks as a group.  Lunch money is collected, any important papers are turned in, and the children let me know if they have a note from home.

Please see that your child returns their S.T.A.R. Binder daily.

The S.T.A.R. Binder contains the following sections:
(Entries can be made daily so please look at all of the sections on a regular basis.)
1.  Clear Plastic Sleeve
Overview of the S.T.A.R. Binder.

2.  Azevada Folder - Important Notes
Notes from Mrs. Nite, our principal, school nurse, or any other school personnel/organization will be in the left-hand pocket.  This folder must be signed every Friday to acknowledge that you have reviewed the information that was sent home during the week. Please note that some items will need to be returned the next school day, so it important to check for items daily.  Please use the right hand pocket to return signed papers, notes (such as notes to me, excuses, notes about walking home or riding the bus) lunch money (in a labeled envelope or baggy), book orders, money for field trips or anything else back to school.

3.  Zippered Pouch - Flash cards
I will be sending home flash cards that need to be cut apart and practiced.  Please have your child write their initials on the back of the cards and keep them in the pouch.

4.  Red Folder - Homework
This folder will contain the homework to be done during the week.  Please help your child remember to put homework back in this folder when finished or when he/she is not working on it.  Each week your child will receive a homework packet on Monday and it is to be completed by Friday.  Packets will be collected Friday mornings.

5.  Zippered Pouch - Take home decodable books
I will be sending home the “take home decodable books” after they have been read in class.  Please refer to the information sheet about the decodable books.  After these books have been read please put them back into the sleeve.  Books will be read both at home and at school.

6.  Yellow Folder - Work to be reviewed
On the left hand side of this folder you will find finished work.  Please remove it nightly and discuss it with your child. After you have "oooed and ahhhed" over it, I'm sure you'll want to show off this work on your refrigerator.  ENJOY!!

On the right hand side of this folder you will find work to be completed.  Examples of work placed in this pocket are: make-up work because your child was absent, unfinished class work, extra work designed to help your child with a particular concept, and so on.

7.  Clear Plastic Sleeve - Monthly school calendar and lunch menu
This sleeve will contain a monthly calendar and a lunch menu.

If you have any questions about the S.T.A.R.. notebook, please contact me.

Respectfully,

          Mrs. Nite
